If you’ve been meaning to “look into AI” for a while and haven’t known where to begin, this is for you. No hype, no jargon. Just the order I’d tackle it in if I were starting again on a busy desk.
Start with one boring task
Pick something you do every week and don’t love: first drafts of job ads, rewriting outreach, tidying interview notes. Don’t start with anything that decides who gets hired.
Use a general assistant first
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot will cover most early use cases. See the general AI assistants and what each costs.
Keep candidate details out until it’s approved
CVs and interview notes are personal information. Use a business plan your organisation has signed off, or strip names and contact details first.
Our guide to AI in hiring and Australian law covers the Privacy Act, Fair Work and the new automated-decision rules.Follow a workflow, not a vibe
Our step-by-step workflows cover SEEK job ads and LinkedIn sourcing, with prompts you can copy.
Then look at specialist tools
Once you know what you actually need, browse the directory or read our best-of guides. Ask every vendor where your data is stored.
